Beyond the road the spoilheaps for 'Norchard Drift' coal mine can be seen. This colliery is often confused with Norchard Colliery situated at Norchard, near Lydney, now the home of the Dean Forest Railway.
John Wilcox added (July 2009): "the low level factory in the background was then a packing only plant for London Rubber who brought gloves etc from Chingford for final packing/inspection. Later of course, after closure, it grew into the buiding foam plant which in turn has now also closed/closing".
